Travis was born in Northern Colorado where he painted with water and dirt on concrete and sculpted with construction debris as a child. After finding the idiosyncrasies of school a bit stifling to his creative outflow, it took him some years to come around and rediscover himself as an artist. Eventually he graduated from UNC while focusing on a interest in wheel throwing. Even though Travis is currently pursuing several distinctly different directions as an artist, he still enjoys the familiarity of working on the potters wheel and working with the element of fire. It is a time of centering, contemplation and personal contentment. However, over the past several years he has also been heavily focused on understanding the destructive part of the creation cycle; often utilizing unorthodox techniques or abandoned elements in finished designs.

When he works in glass, concrete, steel, bronze, wax, acrylic, photography or any of the numerous other media, he finds himself comparing and contrasting those explorations to his earlier experiences with clay, its long tradition and its physical processes. The philosophy of quality craftsmanship instilled under the tutelage of Dick Luster is still a driving force in all of his expressive endeavors. One can easily see and understand that the purpose and meaning of his current work reflects his ceramic roots of function, craft and design. He states, "As I look at my development as an artist, I have come trust myself in taking artist risks and overcoming new challenges because of the persistence I developed as a young potter. I am grateful to all the people who have shared their art skills, encouragement and enthusiasm with me over the years".

As an up and coming artist, Travis has participated in numerous Local, National, International Shows and received several awards for the merits of his creative work. Some of his artworks are featured in galleries, private collections and permanent displays all over the world, with the mainstay being focused in the Western United States.

Travis has designed, fabricated and assisted a diverse range of internationally recognized artists including Meg Saligman, Ella Yates, Jean and Tom Latka. Locally he has collaborated on artworks with Dan Augenstein and Paul Royle-Grimes. His work has been featured in Rocky Mountain Spirit, Clay Times, Go!, and other fine art publications and trade journals.

Travis also shares his skills, knowledge and experience with students all over the country in high schools, grade schools, college and workshops. He employs many of the facets of his creative musings and problem solving of his art process into his teaching and presentation.
